The Museum of Moving Image was very interesting and it also taught me about the different elements that go into media production. I learned about special effects with prosthetics and the importance of costumes. Our group walked around the second floor and the one thing that stuck out to me were the prosthetic legs. We learned that these were used for the movie Black Swan and were used instead of just makeup because the artists were able to make the bruises and wounds more realistic. The tour guide also said that it was more effective to use the legs because it saved time rather than re-applying makeup on Natalie Portman's real legs every shot. This taught me that special effects have a huge impact on movie production and how much it effects the overall outcome of the movie.
On the same floor there was also a section on costumes and we spent time analyzing some of  the different kinds of costumes and how each of them were important for their films. Costumes play a huge part in the overall theme of the movie and how the directors and designers want the character to be portrayed. A lot goes into the design of a costume, even a simple color change can drastically change the mood and overall aesthetic of the film. This taught me that everything is done on purpose and every detail is thought out in order to  make a film possible. The overall trip showed me that the changes in moving image technology has made the industry grow and become better and the overall end products are more advanced.
