Artist Statement

Photography, for me and my work has unraveled the world into understanding the pure happiness that food brings to people. My work so far captures the essence of emotions connected to food and how different foods and emotions can evolve into different photographs. During my senior year of high school, I became what some call a “foodie” and became infatuated with the idea of aesthetically pleasing foods and how much joy and content a nicely plated array of foods can bring to a person. I mostly took pictures of the food itself but soon observed the little mannerisms such as happy dancing and the anticipation of eating in my friend’s faces and soon realized the beauty of food. I fell in love with the enjoyment of food and knew at that moment that this was something I wanted to pursue. I guess what I am trying to capture is the experience itself and the admiration of the art of food itself.

An instagrammer that first peaked my interest in becoming a “foodie” was @Foodbabyny. This page brings the people element and food element into one picture by incorporating his kids and delicious food to capture the perfect angle of both the food and his kid’s moody faces. I explored NYC’s most “instagrammable” food spots and learned the true affect the world of food had on myself and the world. I hope with my experiences and love for food to create the world of aesthetically pleasing foods and emotions in my work but make it my own.
